  • China’s domestic demand for paint and coatings increases at a very fast pace despite the global economic challenges, accounting for over one-half of the Asia Pacific Region’s consumption in 2012.

  • Per capita paint consumption remains relatively low in China at approximately 7.2 kg, indicating that there is considerable potential for the market to grow further.

3. South China continues to be the largest production and consumption area of coatings in the country

  • Ranked first in 2012, South China accounted for 30% of the national coatings production output or 3.8 million tons, an increase of 9.9% compared with the year 2011.

  • Compared with 2011, the number of buyers in South China increased by 16%, accounting for 32.1% of the national coatings consumption.

4. When a country witnesses growth in its GDP and personal income, the consumption of coatings will also increase

  • China’s GDP growth was 7.8% in 2012, well above the global average, and is anticipated to attain 7.5% in 2013 and continues to outpace other leading economies.

5. The coatings market potential is further enhanced by the rapid industrialization and urbanization as well as sustainable economic development in China

  • Rapid local urbanization and public desire for a better quality of life intensify the domestic demand of the downstream and end-user industries, such as building and construction industries, which remain major end-users of coatings and paint.

  • Increasingly stringent environmental rules and regulations urge the elimination of backward production capacity, at the same time promoting industrial upgrading and application of eco-friendly, high-end, high functional products.
